Ants and the Giant Humans

Recently i have been thinking. And it is in part due to biology as well.

Consider a eukaryotic cell (thats a cell with different compartments to you). It has mini organs(organelles), bound together by membranes, constituting a whole, working together. Then consider those organelles. They are made out of molecules of different sorts, working together as well, unknowingly, unconciously creating a "self". Now consider an ant, or animals or plants or humans in general. An ant is made of different organs, brains, limbs, exoskeleton, ect ect. Nature build on success stories, the large copying the small, only on a much grander scale. You still with me?

In an ant nest, different classes of ants come together and interact, performing their own functions so well caliberated to the others that the nest may seem like an individual, starting a war of territory with other nests, "moving house", finding food, reacting much as a single organism would.

So now, at what point will that happen to us humans? When you think about it, our conciousness depends on input from outside, sight, hearing, smell, touch, taste, five senses. At the larger level, what we're building now is actually sensory organs of the mechanic kind. Satellites acts as neurons for information exchange, microphones acts as ears, cameras act as eyes, and we humans are acting somewhat like ants in a nest as well. We specialise, and contribute towards society. Granted, we have much more freewill, but from the big picture, it looks pretty much the same. So at what point will all these information, helped by we humans, take on a rudimentary form of conciousness? With the information network stretched across the globe, will the entire planet come alive? Is there an awareness starting to form within the throes of the billions of humans? Will there be an entity called Humanity, reacting much like a hive or a nest? If we ever get contacted by a super intelligence from an alien life, will it hold conversations with Humanity, while the individual humans scurry here and there unknowingly, unconciouss about being a part of a greater consiousness?
